1. Who we are

Parlé is a French language learning application developed and operated by AppMint Studio inc., a corporation incorporated under the laws of Canada ("AppMint Studio", "we", "our", or "us"). Our registered address is in Canada.

This Privacy Policy applies to the Parlé mobile application ("App") and our marketing website at parleapp.com ("Site"), collectively the "Services".

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide directly

• Account information: Your name, email address, and any profile details you choose to add when you create an account.
• Learning data: Your selected proficiency level (A1–C2), completed lessons, practice sessions, vocabulary lists, and exam results.
• User-generated content: Audio recordings you submit for speaking evaluation, and written text you submit for writing evaluation.
• Communications: Any messages or feedback you send to our support team.

2.2 Information collected automatically

• Usage data: Features used, lesson completion rates, XP earned, streak data, and in-app navigation patterns.
• Device information: Device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and app version.
• Performance data: Crash reports, error logs, and app performance metrics to help us improve stability.

2.3 Payment information

All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, store, or process your credit card or payment details. Please review Apple's privacy policy for information about how they handle payment data.

2.4 Information we do not collect

We do not collect your precise geolocation, contacts list, camera access, microphone access outside of active speaking exercises, or any sensitive personal data (health, biometric, or financial beyond subscription status).

3. How we use your data

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Parlé learning experience
• Track your progress and personalize lesson recommendations
• Manage your subscription and verify access to features
• Calculate your XP and maintain the global leaderboard ranking
• Respond to support requests and communications
• Send you important service-related notices (e.g., subscription renewals, policy changes)
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service
• Comply with our legal obligations
• Conduct analytics to understand how the App is used and improve its features

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data to serve third-party advertising.

4. AI processing

Parlé offers optional AI-powered evaluation of your speaking and writing. When you choose to use AI evaluation:

• Your audio recording or written text is transmitted to our AI service provider for analysis.
• The AI evaluates your pronunciation, grammar, and phrasing, and returns feedback to the App.
• We retain the feedback results in your account. Audio recordings are processed ephemerally and are not stored longer than necessary to generate your feedback.
• AI evaluation is entirely optional — you may always use the free built-in checker, which processes your response entirely on-device.

AI evaluation credits are provided as part of your Parlé Plus subscription. Your AI provider is subject to their own privacy terms.

5. Sharing & disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share your data only in these circumstances:

• Service providers: Trusted third-party vendors who help us operate the Services (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics, AI evaluation). These parties may only use your data to perform services for us and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
• Apple App Store: Subscription management and payment processing is handled by Apple. We receive only confirmation of your subscription status.
• Legal obligations: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of AppMint Studio, our users, or others.
• Business transfers: If AppMint Studio is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred. We will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

6. Data retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Services. If you delete your account:

• Your profile, learning history, vocabulary lists, and personal data are deleted within 30 days.
• Aggregated, anonymized analytics data (which cannot identify you) may be retained indefinitely.
• We may retain certain records for longer periods where required by applicable law (e.g., financial records for tax purposes — up to 7 years).

7. Your rights

Depending on where you reside, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Deletion: Request that we delete your account and associated personal data.
• Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Withdraw consent: Where we rely on consent to process your data, you may withdraw it at any time (e.g., by turning off AI evaluation in Settings).
• Opt out of communications: Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time via the link in any email.

8. Children's privacy

Parlé is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data without parental consent, please contact us immediately and we will delete the data promptly.

9. Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encryption in transit (TLS), encrypted storage, and access controls limited to authorized personnel.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security breach that affects your data, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.

10. Third-party services

The Parlé App and Site may integrate with or link to third-party services. This Privacy Policy does not govern those services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use, including:

• Apple App Store & StoreKit — for subscription and payment processing
• AI evaluation providers — for speaking and writing analysis (when AI evaluation is selected)
• Analytics providers — for app performance and usage analytics (anonymized)

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where required by law, notify you through the App or by email. Your continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
